Job Summary

Reporting to the President, Allegheny Health Network (AHN), the Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) partners with key clinical and executive leadership at AHN and Highmark to drive digital health transformation, technological innovation, and workflow optimization to improve patient outcomes, reduce costs, and grow market share. This executive role requires visionary leadership, strategic planning, knowledge of healthcare technology, and effective budget management. The CDIO will collaborate with Highmark Health and enGen to build a cohesive care delivery platform encompassing digital health, virtual care, data analytics, and population health IT, aligned with Highmark Health’s Living Health Strategy and Clinical Model. Responsibilities include ensuring technologies enable outcomes aligned with the quintuple aim: Quality, Equity and Access, Experience, Affordability, and Sustainability.

The CDIO will aim to establish national recognition in digital health by leveraging AI, virtual care, communication technologies, and predictive tools to meet the quintuple aim goals, with a focus on market understanding and identifying technology and efficiency opportunities in partnership with multidisciplinary teams.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Culture & Quintuple Aim: Create a culture supporting the outcomes for patients, providers/staff, and the organization through digital platforms.
  • Financial Stewardship: Demonstrate sustainable financial leadership in resource management and partnerships.
  • Talent Management: Recruit, retain, mentor, and grow a high-performing team aligned with organizational values and the digital roadmap.
  • Strategic Governance: Participate in strategic and operational governance as a senior management team member.
  • Business Strategy: Collaborate on organizational growth strategies.
Information Technology/Clinical Informatics
  • Leadership & Mentorship: Manage clinical, digital, and virtual health leaders, providing leadership and mentorship.
  • IT Solutions & Cybersecurity: Collaborate to maintain and improve IT solutions, including cybersecurity, ensuring 24/7 coverage.
  • Clinical IT Perspective: Partner with physicians to support IT system design, acquisition, and integration.
  • EHR Implementation & Optimization: Lead EHR implementation and optimize clinical digital delivery.
  • Clinical System Design & Optimization: Lead digital design and optimization of clinical systems focusing on quality and safety.
  • Clinical Guideline Development: Use data to monitor variations and develop clinical guidelines.
  • Clinical Knowledge Management: Manage clinical knowledge within Epic and other applications.
  • Technology Adoption & Change Management: Champion technology adoption and quality initiatives.
  • Performance Outcomes: Lead efforts to meet performance and quality outcomes, working with enGen on capacity planning and budgeting.
Digital/Virtual Health
  • Technology Strategy: Set vision and strategy for digital initiatives.
  • Data Governance: Serve on Data Governance Council.
  • Analytic Product Investment: Responsible for data and analytic product commercialization.
  • Digital Strategy & Architecture: Establish and gain buy-in for digital objectives and architecture.
  • Virtual Care Delivery: Oversee and coordinate virtual care programs and partnerships.
  • Delivery Network Coordination: Build and coordinate digital health delivery networks.
  • Digital Strategy Enhancement: Identify opportunities to strengthen digital strategy in the market.
  • Digital Organization Management: Manage the digital organization, partnering with stakeholders.
  • Performance Achievement: Drive improvements in satisfaction, quality, and operational performance.
Education
  • Required: Bachelor’s degree
  • Preferred: Master’s degree, Clinical Informatics Fellowship, MD or DO
Experience
  • Required: 10+ years in hospital system leadership, 5+ years virtual health, 2+ years digital health product leadership, proven change leadership, exceptional leadership skills.
  • Preferred: Experience with health plans, cybersecurity, digital health, networking, and strategy execution.
Additional Details

Travel: 0-25%

Position: Office-based, with occasional travel, physical demands specified.
