Job summary

City Year is seeking a VP of Development for the Midwest to lead regional fundraising, grow major gifts, and acquire new donors. You will drive a multi-year growth plan, collaborate with national teams and site boards, and broaden City Year’s regional brand and visibility through strategic engagement and storytelling.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in nonprofit fundraising with a track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts, and demonstrated leadership managing large, diverse donor

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 8+ years in fundraising, business development, nonprofit leadership, or related advancement roles.
• Proven success securing major gifts at 100K+ level and managing donor portfolios.
• Ability to identify engage new donors and grow a top-of-funnel pipeline.
• Excellent communication, strategy, relationships, and project management skills.
• Familiarity with Midwest philanthropic networks; strong regional relationships preferred.
• Experience using CRM to manage pipeline, forecasting, and donor insights.
• Willingness to travel 60% across the Midwest and to national convenings.

Responsibilities

• Lead regional major gifts strategy and donor relationship development for the Midwest.
• Build momentum, connect supporters to impact, and grow new champions for City Year’s work.
• Manage portfolio of donors and partner with teams to execute fundraising plans.
• Identify prospective supporters and expand top-of-funnel pipeline.
• Plan cultivation events and thought leadership activities to engage prospects.
• Coordinate with national teams to position Midwest as a priority region.
• Coach local staff on moves management, donor engagement, and stewardship.
• Ensure Salesforce dashboards and calendars support fundraising activities.
