Job summary

Catawba Medical Foundation seeks an accomplished fundraising leader to steer strategy, governance, and operations across annual, major, and planned giving, grants, and campaigns. This role engages boards, medical staff, and community partners to grow philanthropy and strengthen the health system’s brand.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's degree with five+ years in healthcare philanthropy, preferably with a CFRE/FAHP certification and demonstrated success in major gifts and donor cultivation.

Job description

Summary of Performance Expectations

Responsible for all activities related to the direction of the Catawba Medical Foundation – a separate and distinct 501.C3 organization as defined by the Internal Revenue Service. The Foundation is the fund-raising arm of the Catawba Valley Health System. Responsible for the visionary leadership, strategic oversight, and operational excellence across all areas of philanthropy including annual, major, and planned giving; grants; comprehensive campaigns; corporate and foundation relations; and grateful patient engagement. Requires frequent contacts with the Foundation’s Board of Directors, the Board of Trustees of the health system, community leaders, medical staff, administrative staff, employees, patients and families and the general community. The incumbent has the responsibility to build and drive the strategy to strengthen and grow the donor base and overall philanthropic support using industry’s best practices and driven KPI targets, while also elevating CVHS’ brand and reputation through strategic engagement and collaborative efforts.

Education and Credentials

Required: Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred: Master's degree preferred. Status as a Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) or Association for Health Care Philanthropy (FAHP) certification is strongly preferred.

Work Experience

Required: Minimum of five (5) years fund-raising experience (preferably in health care), including fund raising role within capital/comprehensive campaigns, and experience in the development and implementation of a broad-based fundraising program including personally open doors, cultivation, and successfully securing major gifts. Experience in developing and implementing successful development programs and knowledge of “best practices” in health care philanthropy. Proficiency in a donor CRM system (such as Donor Perfect, Raiser’s Edge, Blackbaud CRM, etc.) and data-informed decision-making.

Preferred: Leadership or management experience.
