Job description

The client is seeking a strategic, collaborative, mission-aligned Chief Development Officer to lead impact-driven philanthropy and advance its animal welfare goals. The role will serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and provide both strategic and operational leadership for high-impact fundraising and donor engagement. The organization’s work centers on saving lives, keeping families together, and improving outcomes for pets and the people who care for them.

Reporting to the President and Executive Director, the Chief Development Officer will guide the development and execution of long-term philanthropic strategies designed to generate sustainable revenue, deepen donor relationships, and align philanthropic support with the organization’s strategic priorities. The role will oversee the full spectrum of development activities, including individual and major giving, annual giving, planned giving, endowment, institutional giving and grants, and donor stewardship, as well as major and principal gift prospects.

The successful candidate will personally cultivate and steward a targeted portfolio of high-value donors and prospects while providing strategic leadership for the development team. This leader will build strong community relationships, foster an organization-wide culture of philanthropy, and support transparency, accountability, partnership, and continuous learning. The ideal profile includes proven success managing multi-channel fundraising programs, developing data-informed multi-year strategies, cultivating high-capacity donors, and inspiring teams to achieve ambitious goals.
