Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of director-level fundraising experience.
  • Proven track record of cultivating relationships with diverse supporters.
  • Experience creating, scaling and sustaining major gifts and/or planned giving programs.
  • Ability to organize, direct, plan, budget and coordinate initiatives.
  • Strong leadership including negotiation, problem solving, decision making and delegation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to engage Board, staff, donors, and community partners effectively.
  • Driving is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Seek and develop innovative funding partnerships that further philanthropic goals and initiatives of BGCWC.
  • Lead and grow the Annual Campaign including individual and corporate campaigns and the BGC match.
  • Oversee fundraising and special events, including revenue development, sponsorships, donor engagement, volunteer involvement, and post-event evaluation.
  • Educate donors about giving opportunities to advance the mission.
  • Oversee capital or capacity-building campaigns.
  • Assist in grant research, preparation, and evaluation.
  • Oversee and sustain the Planned Giving program.
  • Produce reports for board meetings and RD committee to inform members.

REPORTS TO:

COMPENSATION:

$75,000 - $90,000/year; full benefits package

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chief Development Officer provides overall leadership, strategic direction, oversight, coordination, priority setting as well as soliciting and closing gifts for the resource development team. This position will further the revenue growth through diversifying revenue streams, engagement, stewardship and retention of current and prospective supporters to foster long-term relationships with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Wayne County.

KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES):
  • Create and lead the overall RD strategy for special events, individuals, grants, corporations, and foundations
  • Seek and develop innovative funding partnerships that further the philanthropic goals and initiatives of BGCWC
  • Lead and grow the Annual Campaign including individual campaign, corporate campaign and BGC match
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for all BGCWC fundraising and special events, including event planning, revenue development, sponsorships, donor engagement, volunteer involvement, and post-event evaluation
  • Educate donors about giving opportunities that would enable them to achieve their desired impact on the mission and beyond
  • Oversee all capital or capacity-building campaigns
  • Assist in research, preparation and evaluation of grant opportunities
  • Oversee and sustain the Planned Giving program
Leadership & Management
  • Responsible for management, development, training, and evaluation of RD staff
  • Work effectively with colleagues in other departments to ensure BGCWC effectively achieves its mission and goals
  • Serve on the Executive Leadership Team and participate in organizational planning, annual operating budget development and assessments
  • Set the standard for effective leadership and management by maintaining a high level of accountability, ethics, excellence, integrity, productivity, professionalism and respect
  • Serve as lead staff member on board RD committee
  • Produce reports for monthly board meetings and board RD Committee to ensure board members are adequately informed
Strategic Planning
  • Execute on the organization's strategic plan and mission through the effective communication of successes and challenges, one-on-one and within the Executive Leadership team
  • Ensure that all direct reports' responsibilities are in line with the strategic plan
  • Provide progress reports on all RD objectives in the strategic plan
  • Recommend changes to the strategic plan annually as needed
Collaborations & Partnerships
  • Build relationships with businesses, community organizations, and individuals through BGCWC special events and other engagement opportunities to increase awareness, support, and long-term philanthropic relationships
  • Cultivate relationships with current and potential BGCWC alumni association members
  • Participate in community events to spread the word about the BGCWC's mission
  • Attend state, regional and national conferences and training opportunities
SKILLS/ KNOWLEDGE PREFERRED:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience at the director level; leading development or fundraising efforts required
  • Proven track record of working to build, foster and sustain creative and mutually beneficial relationships with businesses, individuals, families, corporations, foundations, and government entities
  • Experience in creating, scaling and sustaining a successful major gift and/or planned giving program
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, direct, plan, budget and coordinate
  • Leadership skills include negotiation, problem solving, decision making, and delegation
  • Very strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Board of Directors, staff, donors, community groups, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to drive an automobile is strongly preferred
