Job summary

West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine seeks a Vice President of Institutional Advancement/Chief Development Officer to lead all fundraising, donor stewardship, and external relations. Reporting to the President, you will build a comprehensive advancement enterprise, collaborate with the Foundation and Alumni Association, and serve as liaison to governing boards.

The role requires strategic leadership, extensive fundraising experience in higher education, and a track record of major gifts,

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field is required with extensive experience in institutional advancement in higher education or nonprofit settings.
• At least ten years of progressively responsible fundraising, development, or external relations work.
• Five years of senior‑level administrative leadership experience in advancement or related areas.

Responsibilities

• Plan and direct all institutional advancement activities, including major fundraising campaigns and annual giving.
• Develop strategies to grow the foundation endowment and secure gifts from diverse sources.
• Cultivate and solicit prospective donors and oversee donor recognition and stewardship.
• Coordinate fundraising with alumni relations and external boards to support growth and engagement.
• Oversee budgeting, reporting, and compliance with IRS regulations and CASE standards.
