Job summary

The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland is seeking a dynamic Director of Development & Communications to lead fundraising, communications, and government relations efforts that advance access to civil legal assistance for those in poverty. This executive role will drive revenue growth, visibility, and partnerships with donors, foundations, corporations, and government entities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (JD, MBA, or related field) strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in development, public relations, strategic communications, and nonprofit fundraising.
• Proven success in securing major gifts, institutional funding, and government partnerships; strong leadership experience managing teams (5+ years).

Responsibilities

• Serve as chief fundraising strategist, leading comprehensive development efforts for financial sustainability.
• Design and implement a diversified fundraising strategy across major donors and institutions.
• Lead donor stewardship and build relationships with top funders.
• Partner with the Executive Director and Board to engage stakeholders in fundraising efforts.
• Plan and implement Major and Planned Gifts solicitation strategies.
• Oversee annual development plans across foundations, law firms, corporations, individuals, and partners.
