Job summary

County of Los Angeles seeks a Chief Deputy of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to direct and oversee all operations, ensuring staff adequacy and effective benefits delivery to veterans and dependents.

The role supervises 70 personnel with a $23 million budget, builds relationships with officials and veterans groups, and guides program expansion and advocacy for veterans and families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in any field.
• Minimum of five years of demonstrated management experience leading major administrative areas such as personnel, budget, contracts, risk management, or facilities management.
• Proven leadership and experience in developing, managing, and expanding programs with stakeholders that promote access, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Demonstrated experience in finance, budget development, resource allocation, and revenue generation.
• All applicants must have a valid California Class “C” driver’s license or ability to utilize an alternative transportation method.

Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all operations of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
• Oversee 70 personnel and an operating budget of $23 million.
• Interact with local, state, and federal veteran organizations and elected officials; influence positive veteran-related legislation.
• Serve as the Board’s key advisor on veterans programs and serve as a liaison to stakeholders.
