Job summary

NORC at the University of Chicago seeks a Senior Vice President for Statistics and Data Science (SDS) to lead, grow, and shape NORC's scientific portfolio. The role partners with senior leaders to expand capabilities in AI, machine learning, data integration, and privacy-preserving methods while driving business development and cross-department collaboration.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or related field.
• 15+ years in leadership within research, academic, nonprofit, or private-sector environments.
• Nationally recognized expertise in statistics, data science, AI/ML, or related field.
• Proven business development and client engagement experience.
• Extensive experience recruiting, developing, mentoring, and retaining staff.
• Experience leading large, multidisciplinary teams and fostering inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Oversee, manage, and lead all aspects of the Statistics and Data Science Department, including staff development, partnerships, finance and operations.
• Develop and champion the department's long-term vision and strategy.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to advance enterprise priorities and competitiveness.
• Advance NORC's leadership in statistics and data science.
• Identify and develop new statistical and technical capabilities.
• Foster cross-project collaboration to integrate SDS expertise into proposals and projects.
• Lead development of reusable methods, tools, and AI governance and data modernization.
