Job summary

Columbia Museum of Art seeks a Director of Curatorial Affairs and Chief Curator to lead its curatorial program, exhibitions, and scholarly activities. You will help shape the artistic direction and ensure high standards in interpretation, research, and public engagement.

The role reports to the Executive Director and collaborates across departments to advance the museum’s mission, accessibility, and inclusion while supporting ongoing growth and scholarship.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in art history or closely related field is required; PhD preferred.
• Eight years of progressively responsible curatorial experience including supervisory leadership.
• Demonstrated expertise in collecting areas and scholarship; strong exhibitions track record.

Responsibilities

• Lead strategic and institutional leadership as a senior member of the Museum Leadership Team.
• Establish and implement a cohesive curatorial vision driving exhibitions, acquisitions, and interpretation.
• Oversee collections assessment, development, scholarship, and governance.
• Provide mentorship to curatorial staff and coordinate cross‑department collaboration.
• Oversee budget, operations, and alignment with institutional policies.
