Job description

Chief Compliance Officer (New York, NY): Our client, a leading private equity firm with over $8 billion in AUM, is seeking an accomplished compliance professional to join their team as CCO and lead the firm’s compliance function. Following significant growth in assets over recent years, the firm is looking for a seasoned compliance professional who can step into the role with immediate credibility and take full ownership of the compliance program. This is a highly visible opportunity within a lean, collaborative organization where the CCO is expected to be an integral member of the firm’s senior leadership, engaging with investors, participating in leadership meetings, and having significant autonomy to lead and evolve the compliance function as the platform continues to grow.

Key Points
  • Join a growing and successful private investment firm that has scaled to more than $8 billion in AUM in recent years.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented culture where the CCO will be deeply integrated into the organization and viewed as a partner to the business.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of the compliance function at an important point in the firm’s growth and have a meaningful impact on how the program evolves over time.
  • The firm expects to continue building its infrastructure as it grows, creating an opportunity for the incoming CCO to eventually build out additional support beneath them.
  • Long-term opportunity to grow with the platform.
Responsibilities
  • Own the firm’s compliance program, overseeing the function from end to end, including policies and procedures, monitoring, testing, regulatory requirements, and ongoing program enhancements.
  • Evaluate the existing compliance framework and continue to evolve the program alongside the growth and increasing complexity of the firm.
  • Oversee the Code of Ethics, including personal trading, gifts and entertainment, political contributions, outside business activities, and conflicts of interest.
  • Oversee compliance with the SEC’s marketing rule, including review and approval of marketing materials, pitch decks, RFPs, and investor communications.
  • Provide practical, commercially minded compliance guidance to the broader business on regulatory matters.
  • Lead regulatory examination preparedness and ongoing testing of the compliance program; manage and coordinate SEC examinations, deficiency responses, and remediation efforts, as needed.
  • Engage with current and prospective investors regarding the firm’s compliance program and related matters.
  • Assist in development and implementation of a firm-wide AI governance and acceptable-use policy.
  • Assess regulatory, data privacy, cybersecurity, and model risk considerations related to AI and machine-learning tools.
  • Establish controls around data sourcing, vendor due diligence, documentation, and human oversight.
  • Monitor regulatory developments related to AI usage within investment management.
  • Support the firm’s corporate governance framework, including maintaining committee charters, meeting schedules, minutes, and related records.
  • Manage relationships with external compliance consultants and other third-party advisors.
  • Partner closely with the CFO, CLO, investment professionals, and other senior stakeholders across the organization.
  • Evaluate the future needs of the compliance function and help build out the team as appropriate over time.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Substantial in-house compliance experience within private equity, private credit, or a comparable investment management environment leading or meaningfully owning a comprehensive compliance program.
  • Experience as a CCO or in a sufficiently senior compliance leadership position to step directly into the CCO role immediately.
  • Energetic, collaborative, and team-oriented approach with a desire to become deeply integrated within the organization.
  • JD or legal background is welcome but not required.
  • New York-based candidates are preferred. The firm will also consider exceptional candidates based in West Palm Beach who are able to travel to New York regularly.
