Job summary

Rice University is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Planning & Design and University Architect (AVP) to lead the planning and design organization and act as the internal design authority for campus initiatives.

The AVP will partner with senior leadership to align planning, design governance, and capital investments with Rice's mission, advancing architectural heritage and landscape stewardship across the university.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture and professional architectural licensure.
• 4+ years of planning and design experience with campus facilities and master planning.
• Strong leadership, governance, and collaboration with senior leadership and boards.

Responsibilities

• Lead Campus Planning and Design program governance and standards.
• Serve as principal steward for campus facilities and landscapes.
• Direct development and update of the campus master plan.
• Establish architectural, landscape, and urban design standards.
• Oversee consultant selection, design review, and major capital project processes.
• Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership and project teams.
• Collaborate on five- and ten-year capital plans and prioritization.
• Build relationships and influence decisions across the university.
