Job summary

Rice University is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as Assistant Vice President of Planning & Design & University Architect. The AVP will guide campus planning, design governance, and long‑range development, acting as the principal advisor on architecture, landscape stewardship, and capital investments.

The role requires a strategic, collaborative leader with deep expertise in higher education planning, architecture, and campus development, who can translate institutional priorities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Architecture from an accredited institution.
• Professional licensure as a Registered Architect.
• 4+ years of professional experience in planning and design, including facilities, grounds, and campus development projects, with a commitment to design excellence.

Responsibilities

• Lead the continued evolution of the Campus Planning and Design program, establishing governance, standards, processes, and partnerships that support the University’s long‑term physical development strategy.
• Serve as the University’s principal steward for planning, design, and development of campus facilities, grounds, and landscapes.
• Direct the development, implementation, and updates of the campus master plan to align with strategic priorities and capital investments.
