Job summary

In accordance with YMCA Christian principles, this summer position supports campers and staff, ensuring safety, happiness, growth and development. The Head Counselor mentors Sr., Counselor and Jr. Counselors, ensures policy adherence, and leads activities while maintaining safety and accountability in the village.

The role requires prior youth-work experience, leadership as a peer supervisor, and the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid. Must be 20+ years old and ready to mentor a diverse team.

Qualifications

• Belief in the YMCA Mission and high moral standards.
• 2+ years of prior experience with children in camping or youth work.
• Experience as a peer leader or supervisor.
• Ability to train and mentor staff.
• Must be 20 years or older and CPR/First Aid certs obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Lead staff training sessions and inspire staff to lead campers well.
• Ensure safety, health, welfare and happiness of staff and campers.
• Attend staff meetings and assist with camper sign ups each evening.
• Supervise activities, manage equipment, and maintain cabin safety.
• Ensure policies and procedures are followed and documentation is complete.
• Greet parents during check in/out and maintain order in cabins.
