Job Description: Chief Building Inspector
The Loudoun County Department of Building and Development is seeking a Chief Building Inspector to oversee the Building Field Supervisors and Building Inspectors responsible for conducting field inspections of commercial and residential structures for compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (USBC) and local ordinances.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assist the Code Program Administrator in planning, directing, and managing the building inspection operations of a 14-member team.
- Manage 2 building inspection field supervisors.
- Assist the Building Official and Deputy Building Official in enforcing the USBC.
- Coordinate special inspections, pre-construction, and complaint meetings with contractors, design professionals, and other stakeholders.
- Provide technical training on construction techniques, materials, and relevant codes and statutes.
- Offer technical code expertise and consultation to various staff, contractors, engineers, architects, and legal professionals.
- Respond to customer inquiries related to the USBC building provisions.
- Support administrative tasks such as budgeting, training, and special projects.
- Manage staff performance, promote professional development, and encourage participation in relevant organizations.
- Utilize technology for daily inspections and serve as a subject matter expert on land management inspection software.
- Assist with FOIA requests and other customer inquiries.

Compensation: Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Management, or related field.
- Two years of related work experience with at least one year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Working knowledge of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC) is highly preferred.
Other Requirements:
- Pass criminal and DMV background checks.
- Become certified by the Virginia State Department of Housing and Community Development as a Residential & Commercial Building Inspector within one year of employment and maintain certifications as per Virginia Standards.
