Job description

Join to apply for the Bridge Inspector Team Leader role at STV.

STV currently has an opening in our Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Douglassville, or Pittsburgh, PA offices for a Bridge Inspector/Structural Engineering Specialist in our Transportation and Infrastructure division.

The successful candidate will be an experienced professional with a full understanding of bridge inspection and engineering practices, capable of solving a wide range of bridge engineering design, analysis, and inspection challenges.

The position offers a mix of office and field work, including leading on-site bridge inspections, providing technical oversight, reviewing inspection reports, and designing and overseeing repairs. Opportunities include engineering design, analysis, inspection, and technical decision-making for bridge replacements, rehabilitations, and preservations.

Primary Responsibilities
  1. Plan, perform, and supervise bridge inspections in accordance with NBI Standards and safety guidelines.
  2. Supervise and mentor inspection team members.
  3. Assist with bridge design and rehabilitation projects, perform design calculations, estimates, and specifications, and assist with bridge rating calculations and reports.
  4. Monitor project budgets and schedules.
  5. Perform NBIS inspections of various bridge types.
  6. Complete FHWA-NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-service Bridges).
  7. Qualify as NBIS team leader for bridge inspections per 23CFR650.
  8. Use bridge engineering design and analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  9. Work independently with a record of safe working habits.
  10. Perform physical field work year-round in various weather conditions, around bridges, roads, rail, and tunnels.
  11. Carry ladders and gear, work at heights, and in water with waders.
  12. Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  13. Have reliable transportation and willingness to travel.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
  1. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  2. At least 8 years of bridge inspection experience.
  3. Pennsylvania PE license or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  4. Familiarity with Bridge Inspection Management Systems.
  5. Knowledge of structural design and analysis.
  6. Additional FHWA NHI training (e.g., Fracture Critical, Moveable Bridge, Tunnel, or Ancillary Structures).
  7. SPRAT Certified Rope Access Technician.
Compensation Range

$78,005.00 - $104,007.00
