We are seeking an experienced and visionary Chief Architect to lead the software and solution architecture for cutting-edge optical transport systems. This role involves overseeing the architectural design across multiple hardware and software products, ensuring convergence where possible, and driving innovation in high-speed Ethernet and optical networking technologies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, leadership capabilities, and a proven track record in system architecture and software development.

• Lead and drive key product decisions from overall product architecture to specific product features
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, operations, and other divisions, to achieve business unit goals
• Participate in the full lifecycle of software system development
• Act as a change agent to create architecture roadmaps and improve development processes
• Develop and maintain a product/technology roadmap aligned with industry trends and strategic business directions
• Identify technology or skill set gaps that may impede roadmap attainment and develop plans for resolution
• Support initiatives to converge tools and processes across different R&D locations
• Mentor software leads to enhance cross-site development capabilities
• Exercise business acumen to make informed product trade-off decisions
• Perform risk assessments to encourage informed risk-taking with measured consequences
• Manage complexity and ambiguity to lead teams effectively during evolving project details

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent (required)
• Advanced engineering degree (preferred)

Experience:

• 8+ years in systems architecture and/or engineering leadership
• 10+ years of hands-on software development experience

Technical Expertise:

• Strong understanding of Ethernet layers L0–L7
• Experience with stateless and stateful traffic protocols
• Deep knowledge of routing and switching protocols
• Familiarity with Ethernet standards (IEEE, RFCs, etc.)
• Experience with high-speed Optical Ethernet (100G, 400G, 800G)
• Proficiency in C, C++, and Python
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases
• Deep understanding of software development life cycles, Agile (SAFe), and traditional methodologies
• Proficiency with version control, debugging, and issue tracking tools
• Familiarity with object-oriented design and enterprise architecture

Leadership & Communication:

• Proven ability to lead globally distributed and outsourced development teams
• Strong mentoring, coaching, and team-building skills
• Excellent analytical and communication skills
• Confident in presenting plans and decisions to senior leadership
• Able to work effectively across time zones and cultures

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with FPGAs
• Background in telecommunications and optical networking
• Exposure to micro-service architectures
• Experience with distributed systems
• Cloud computing experience
