Job summary

Baker Tilly US seeks a Head of Agent Engineering to lead the design and deployment of agent-based systems across our AI initiatives. This leader will define task decomposition, orchestration, memory management, tool use, and human-in-the-loop controls that product teams will implement from.

The role combines hands-on coding in Python/TypeScript with mentoring, collaboration across Data & AI Platform, Product, Design, and Platform teams, and setting engineering standards for scalable agentic

Qualifications

• 15+ years of software engineering experience
• 3+ years building and deploying LLM-based or agentic systems in production
• Staff- or principal-level engineering experience
• Experience designing evaluation harnesses and using baselines, regression testing to drive iteration and release decisions
• Strong knowledge of orchestration frameworks, tool calling, MCP, vector/graph retrieval, context and memory management
• Experience with evaluation methodologies and LLM-as-judge patterns
• Full-stack product engineering experience
• Experience designing human-in-the-loop workflows, checkpoints, and failure containment
• Hands-on coding in Python and/or TypeScript in production
• Experience with observability and tracing for agentic systems
• Experience directing third-party/partner engineers to standards
• Experience evaluating third-party technologies or vendor agents
• Demonstrated ability to use AI as a force multiplier
• Strong collaboration across engineering, product, design, platform, and business
• No certifications required

Responsibilities

• Define agentic reference patterns including task decomposition, orchestration, memory management, tool use, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints
• Maintain agent pattern library and establish orchestration standards
• Own BT Compass end to end including agentic workflows and full-stack product experiences
• Build and own the evaluation harness, baselines, and regression discipline for agents
• Establish evaluation and acceptance criteria with Product, Architecture, Platform & Production Engineering
• Partner with Platform & Production Engineering to enable scalable evaluation in production
• Lead the Agent Factory and set high standards for design and quality
• Conduct hands-on design and code reviews and mentor engineers
• Hire and develop full-stack AI engineers who can build agents and applications
• Translate emerging practices into Baker Tilly standards, runbooks
• Direct third-party and partner engineers against standards
• Evaluate third-party/vendor agents against internal standards
• Collaborate with Chief Architect to promote patterns into the platform
• Work with Data & AI Platform, Product, Design, Quality Engineering, India teams
• Engage in special projects and other duties
