Position Summary
We are seeking a Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) as we unveil a strategic plan focused on long-term
fiscal sustainability, programmatic scale and systems-change work, and earned income. This is a rare
opportunity for a values-driven, results-oriented leader to step into a high-impact role with a
globally-respected nonprofit and help shape the future for children across Rwanda, and globally.
The CAO will lead our fundraising, Board relations, and communications efforts and help ensure ASYV’s
long-term impact and sustainability. As the most senior staff member in the U.S., the CAO will partner
closely with our Rwanda-based CEO, Board of Directors, and staff teams to drive strategic revenue
growth, elevate global awareness, and deepen relationships with our community of donors and
supporters. Pivotal to this role is a profound connection to ASYV’s mission, a commitment to cultivating a
healthy team environment, and a passion for relationship development.

Location
This position is remote-friendly, in the Philadelphia to Boston corridor only, with an office located in NYC.
The position requires monthly travel within the New York to Boston area, domestic travel up to quarterly,
and annual to bi-annual travel to Rwanda.

plan to insure long term fiscal sustainability of the Village.
● Oversee fundraising pipelines; grow annual fundraising campaigns; cultivate, steward, and solicit
ASYV’s highest-level donors, in partnership with CEO; and manage a diverse event portfolio.
● Represent ASYV in external-facing work with donors, partners, and other stakeholder
communities.
● Develop corporate strategy and portfolio
● Ensure effective development operations and staff effectiveness
● Ensure all fundraising activities comply with nonprofit regulations and ethical standards.

Management
● Foster a collaborative and results-oriented culture within the six-member New York team that
embraces teamwork, transparency, communication, and mentorship.

Marketing/Communications
● Oversee skilled donor communications staff in creation of annual donor communications and
marketing materials.
● Lead efforts to broaden ASYV’s visibility and reach globally.

Board and Committees
● Partner with the Board Chair and CEO to develop and engage the Board of Directors; support
Board recruitment, retention, and communications; oversee staff administration of the Board.
● Work closely with the CFO, financial teams, and the Fiscal Committee to forecast annual revenue
goals and review cash flow monthly and quarterly.

Skills and Experience
● BA/BS with 7+ years of experience in a senior development role with a US based non-profit
organization, with increasing responsibility across major gifts, events, and corporate giving.
● 5+ years of experience hiring, building, and managing a development team that successfully
aligns fundraising goals with organizational strategy.
● Proven experience developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising plans that meet
annual revenue goals of $6-10M+
● Proven experience as the primary institutional relationship holder for major gifts and cultivating
relationships with high-net-worth individuals.
● Expertise with donor databases and utilizing fundraising software for donor relationship
management, Raiser’s Edge/NXT preferred.
● Proven ability to forecast diverse income streams.
● Expertise with Board or fiduciary committee management.
● Familiarity with fundraising in international development, youth development, or humanitarian
organizations.
● Ability to manage details and think strategically.
● Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex
issues in a clear and compelling manner.
