Job summary

Muon Space is seeking a hands‑on Head of Accounting to lead the corporate accounting function, own the GAAP close, external reporting, and internal controls. This senior role reports to the CFO and partners with cross‑functional teams to scale processes for government and commercial programs.

The ideal candidate has 12–15+ years in accounting with CPA, deep GAAP expertise, and a proven track record building scalable controls in a complex environment, including cost accounting and program finance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with CPA.
• 12–15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leading teams and owning close/reporting in a complex environment.
• Deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial statement preparation, and accounting controls.
• Experience in aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or similarly complex environments.
• Experience with cost accounting, inventory accounting, and long‑cycle program structures.

Responsibilities

• Lead the accounting organization, setting strategy, cadence, and performance expectations.
• Own end‑to‑end monthly, quarterly, and annual close with GAAP‑compliant statements.
• Establish and maintain strong controls, policies, and procedures for audit readiness.
• Partner with CFO and executives to provide insights on results, risks, and controls.
• Oversee external audits and tax/compliance reporting.
• Manage core accounting ops including AR, AP, payroll, and fixed assets.
• Drive ERP/finance systems strategy and data governance.
• Support program finance, cost tracking, and supplier/subcontractor cost reporting.
