Job summary

CarMax is seeking an accomplished accounting leader to own external financial reporting, including SEC filings, and to drive policy, controls, and ERP modernization for a large, multi-entity organization. You will supervise a sizable accounting function, ensure SOX compliance, and partner with executive leadership on risk and financial strategy.

The role requires deep GAAP expertise, excellent communication to the Board, and a track record of transforming finance operations at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or Business Administration; CPA required.
• 20+ years of progressively responsible accounting leadership experience, including Big 4 or large public company roles.
• Experience leading external financial reporting (SEC filings) and internal controls/SOX.

Responsibilities

• Own external financial reporting, GAAP compliance, and SEC filings.
• Lead audits with external auditors and resolve complex accounting issues.
• Oversee multi-entity consolidations, general ledger, and close processes.
• Drive ERP modernization, automation, and data infrastructure for accounting.
• Partner with executive leadership and governance bodies on financial strategy and risk.
