The ideal candidate will review medical evidence, take depositions, conduct discovery, draft pleadings, and litigate before an administrative law judge while representing employers and insurers at hearings and mediations. Competitive benefits offered.

Qualifications

• J.D. and proof of admission to Illinois bar; passing the bar in another Midwest state a plus.
• Proven 2+ years of workers’ compensation defense experience.
• Working knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
• Microsoft Word and Outlook experience required; PerfectLaw software experience preferred.
• Firm and client confidentiality required.

Responsibilities

• Gather and review medical evidence and medical records.
• Take depositions of the claimant, physicians, medical experts, and other parties.
• Conduct discovery and perform legal research.
• Draft pleadings, findings of fact, motions, briefs, opinions, and other legal documents.
• Litigate workers' compensation cases before an administrative law judge.
• Represent the interests of the employer or insurer at hearings, trials, depositions, oral arguments, mediations, arbitrations, and other proceedings.
• Monitor loss run reports for trends and alerts management to concerns.
• Assist with the investigation of accidents and problem areas.
• Manage workers' compensation costs to reduce liability.
• Coordinate and attend claims reviews.
