Caterpillar Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Chicago, IL to lead backend development of our digital platform hosted on AWS. You will design RESTful services, mentor engineers, and drive high-quality software with a microservices approach.

You will participate in cross-functional Agile teams and guide architecture and operations documentation. The role emphasizes leadership, technical excellence, and collaboration within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Experience designing and developing backend services using Java 17+ and Spring Boot.
• Experience deploying and maintaining software on AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with message streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, RabbitMQ).

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend RESTful API services using microservices architecture.
• Mentor and review code; lead development and support teams.
• Tackle complex technical problems and deliver valuable business features.
• Guide documentation and operations docs; ensure high-quality software practices.
