Job summary

Boys & Girls Club Of Greater Northwest Indiana is seeking a Custodian at the DL Club - Duneland, IN 46304. This part-time role offers $13.00-$15.00 hourly and up to 29 hours per week during the school year, with additional hours for rentals.

Location is 708 Evans Avenue, Valparaiso, IN 46383. The Custodian will clean and sanitize facilities, assist with events, and ensure safe, orderly work areas.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety rules and manuals.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and exercise good judgment.
• Ability to operate and maintain specialty cleaning equipment.
• Must be authorized to work in the US; background check and drug screen required.
• Clean experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform regular preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
• Clean, mop, wash, scrub, wax, polish, buff, and vacuum floors with industrial machines.
• Empty trash receptacles.
• Move furniture and equipment for cleaning and events.
• Remove stains from surfaces using cleaning solutions.
• Maintain clean and orderly work areas and report hazards.

Job Location: DL Club - Duneland, IN 46304

Salary Range: $13.00 - $15.00 Hourly

Typical Hours: Part‑time up to 29 hours a week school year: 7am to Noon, Monday through Friday, with additional hours Friday evening or Saturday morning as needed for rentals. Summer hours will vary

The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment for all staff, members, visitors and vendors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform regular preventive maintenance on all equipment necessary.
• Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
• Clean, mop, wash, scrub, wax, polish, buff, and vacuum floor using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
• Empty trash receptacles.
• Clean and polish fixtures.
• Removes recycling materials.
• Manage inventory of supplies necessary to perform job.
• Sometimes using ladders, dust and wash walls, clean ceilings and window, and dust and polish light fixtures.
• Clean windows.
• Dust furniture.
• Move cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas as well as during office moves and events.
• Remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
• Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
• Operate motorized cleaning equipment.
• Detect faulty operations, defective material, hazards or unsafe conditions and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
• Attendance of all staff/agency meetings, as required.
• Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.

QualificationsKnowledge/Skills Required:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions.
• Able to comprehend, retain and follow oral and written instructions, exercise good judgment, set priorities, listen, problem solve and make decisions.
• Ability to operate and maintain specialty cleaning equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to positively interact with staff, members, parents, visitors, vendors, etc.
• Must be able to work with limited to no supervision.
• Ability to satisfactorily pass a criminal history background check.
• Ability to satisfactorily pass a drug screen for all federally illegal substances.
• Must be authorized to work in the US.
• Clean Experience preferred

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, and moving machinery and hazardous chemicals. The noise level is moderate to high. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires the ability to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
