Job summary

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California invites applications for a Chemistry Team Manager (Emerging Chemical Constituents) in La Verne, CA. Lead the ECC team in applied research, method development, and regulatory support to ensure safe drinking water for millions.

Ideal candidate will have a chemistry/environmental science background, years of research experience, and strong leadership skills to mentor staff andCollaborate across departments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and/or environmental sciences with emphasis on drinking water quality and analytical chemistry.
• Eight years of progressively responsible relevant experience, including two years in project management, supervision, or lead capacity.
• Advanced degree with at least six years of relevant experience, including two years in project management or lead capacity.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor a team of technical professionals.
• Lead monitoring efforts to test and report treatment process performance indicators and unregulated contaminants.
• Review proposed legislation and regulatory changes affecting drinking water quality.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, safety, and technical excellence.
• Develop, validate, and refine analytical methods; ensure data quality and QA/QC.
• Plan and oversee applied water research programs focused on emerging contaminants.
• Manage capital improvement projects and externally funded research initiatives.
• Develop project proposals, technical reports, and scientific publications.
• Administer project budgets, contracts, and team resources.
• Present research findings to industry professionals and regulatory agencies.

Education

Bachelor's degree in chemistry/environmental sciences

Advanced degree in relevant field
