Job summary

University of Central Florida’s Department of Chemistry seeks a Laboratory Coordinator I to support organic teaching labs. You will serve as the primary contact for lab operations, coordinating with IoR, GTAs, technicians, and stockroom staff to assure students have needed materials and equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree and 0+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.
• Foundational knowledge of organic chemistry theory, standard laboratory techniques, and common apparatus.
• Experience supporting teaching laboratories and training or guiding students or staff.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety standards, EHS protocols, and hazardous chemical handling.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with IoR to obtain syllabi, materials, and equipment lists for each semester.
• Maintain inventory levels and adapt lab experiments to curricular needs.
• Perform daily maintenance of teaching labs and stockroom for safety and functionality.
• Set up labs daily with chemicals, supplies, and functioning equipment; restock as needed.
• Lead pre-lab meetings with GTAs to review objectives, safety, and waste procedures.
• Provide hands-on training and support to GTAs; address recurring lab challenges.
• Handle and dispose of hazardous materials per safety regulations.
• Coordinate hazardous waste pickups with EHS and conduct periodic inspections.
• Work with Instrumentation Specialist for equipment training and maintenance.
• Develop user guides for instrumentation as needed.
• Ensure continuity of lab support during absences; mentor student assistants.
• Assist with special projects including lab decontamination and relocation of equipment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
