Scotland Memorial Hospital is seeking a Department Supervisor for the Lab. The role requires current MLS/MT/MLT certification and extensive experience in bacteriology, testing platforms, and quality programs.

You will supervise the section, manage equipment and inventory, and lead staff development while ensuring compliance with CAP and hospital standards. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Current certification as MLS(ASCP), MT(AMT), or MLT(ASCP) OR eligible for certification within 9 months of taking position.
• Experience in bacteriology, plating, biochemical testing for pathogen identification.
• Proven ability to supervise a laboratory section and manage staff.

Responsabilités

• Proficient in area of specialty and perform duties in other lab departments as assigned.
• Keep current technical information and suggest improvements to tests/menu and equipment.
• Responsible for equipment management, QC schedules, and instrument performance.
• Ensure adequate reagent supply and economical use per specifications.
• Manage inventory and ensure resources for staff within the section.
• Maintain a clean, organized section; support professional development.
• Lead meetings, stay current with trends, and communicate clearly with staff.
• Research and recommend testing platforms for section implementation.
• Collaborate with Lab Manager/Director to inform on problems and updates.
• Organize work, exercise independent judgment, and ensure policies are up-to-date.
• Assist in training staff, students, and hospital visitors.
• Perform or delegate proficiency testing and follow-up on deficiencies.
• Identify and correct all quality-related problems and drive improvement.
• Maintain Performance Improvement program and document competency.
• Model professional behavior and The Scotland Way principles.
• Monitor costs and assist in budget reporting and compliance plans.
• Provide monthly reports to Laboratory Director and maintain QA docs.
• Direct and supervise section staff and ensure safe operations.
