Job summary

Arcwood Environmental seeks a Chemist, Production to assist Operations by developing daily plans for receiving, sampling, remediating and incinerating hazardous waste. This onsite role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance, and collaborative problem-solving.

The position requires a Bachelor's in chemistry or chemical engineering and 3+ years in an industrial or laboratory setting, with knowledge of OSHA, DOT and RCRA. Incineration and material-handling experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in an industrial or laboratory environment.
• Foundational knowledge and experience with OSHA, DOT and RCRA requirements.
• Previous experience in incineration, lab packing, and material handling processes (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies and maintaining safe practices.
• Coordinates burn planning for the incinerator and balance of feed sources.
• Oversees sampling and testing requirements for wastes received at the facility.
• Evaluates all waste deliveries for compliance with approved waste streams.
• Assists in chemical evaluation of process upsets at the facility.
• Tracks chemistry of materials going to the incinerator and storage tanks for compliance.
• Partners with Approvals on new wastes for correct processing designations.
• Partners with technicians on chemical safety and training within the facility.
• Assists with development and revision of SOPs for new processes.
• Participates in TRT and operations production meetings.
• Takes on additional duties to support the team and organization.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Chemist, Production you will be responsible for assisting Operations by providing technical assistance in the development of daily plans for receiving, sampling, remediating and incinerating hazardous waste.

• Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and consistently maintaining safe practices
• Coordinates burn planning for the incinerator, including the appropriate balance of all constituents going through all feed sources to the incinerator
• Oversees sampling and testing requirements for wastes received at the facility, including wastes that are not ordinarily sampled for compliance and testing to determine appropriate mix to the incinerator
• Evaluates all waste deliveries for compliance with approved waste streams into the facility
• Assists in the chemical evaluation of process upsets at the facility
• Tracks chemistry of materials going to the incinerator and storage tanks for compliance with facility risk assessment and chemical tracking systems
• Partners with Approvals on new wastes to be approved on correct processing designations
• Partners with technicians regarding chemical safety and training within the facility
• Assists with the development and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new processes added across the facility
• Participates in TRT and operations production meetings
• Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization

Education

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or chemistry (required)

Experience

• 3+ years of experience within an industrial or laboratory environment (required)
