Job summary

Arcwood Environmental is seeking an Operations Manager, Plant, to lead the 24/7 waste incinerator facility with a focus on safe, compliant operations, financial performance, and customer satisfaction. You will plan production, manage budgets and P&L, establish goals, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements while collaborating with inter-plant and corporate teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science related field.
  • 5+ years of plant operations experience in hazardous waste or chemical plants.
  • Understanding of P&Ls.
  • Technical knowledge of chemistry-related equipment or processes.
  • Experience with industrial waste treatment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead 24/7 incinerator operations with focus on safety and compliance.
  • Manage budgets, costs, and profitability.
  • Plan production schedules to ensure productivity and quality.
  • Develop and revise operating procedures.
  • Investigate incidents and drive corrective actions.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Operations Manager, Plant – responsible for the leadership of operations for a 24/7 waste incinerator facility, including safe and complaint operations, financial performance, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Functions & Requirements
  • Prioritizes health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times.
  • Ensures compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations related to the waste and environmental services industry.
  • Reviews production schedules to plan facility operations; establishes priorities and sequences to ensure productivity and quality.
  • Establishes operating goals and resolves operational and maintenance issues to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Develops and/or revises standard operational and working procedures; ensures Company policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Troubleshoots treatment processes through acquired chemistry and waste treatment knowledge and best practices.
  • Establishes production metrics and monitors reporting to ensure achievement of goals within the business line.
  • Facilitates strong interactions and collaboration between inter-plant departments and Corporate teams.
  • Prepares and completes audits of various mandatory reporting for all relevant functional departments.
  • Assists in the development of yearly operational budget; monitors conformance to the budget and cost of operations to ensure proper pricing and profitability.
  • Determines waste disposal options (acceptability and pricing) in partnership with Corporate Approvals; addresses physical and analytical issues around non-conforming waste materials received.
  • Assists in proposal development, attends pre-bid meetings, assists with cost estimates and program planning and provides technical support for Corporate teams.
  • Reviews and manages departmental expenses including P&L, disposal billing, time sheet approvals, etc.
  • Continuously monitors facility operations for adherence and efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Assists in incident and near-miss investigations, identifying root and contributing causes and coordinates corrective measures and follow up actions.
  • Serves as a member of the Plant Emergency Team; leads effective response to emergency situations, including the timely notification of reportable incidents, response actions, and removal of residues and replacement of supplies.
  • Participates in the hiring, performance evaluation, discipline, promotion and termination processes of team members as needed.
  • Takes on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science related field (required).
Experience
  • 5+ years of related plant operations experience in hazardous waste operations and/or chemical plant operations (required).
  • Reasonable experience with and understanding of P&Ls (required).
  • Technical knowledge of equipment and/or processes related to chemistry (required).
  • Experience with industrial waste treatment practices (preferred).
