Position Summary:

The Chemist II in the Center of Innovation Nonferrous lab shall execute development assignments and conduct tests under the supervision of Nonferrous COI manager. The Chemist shall contribute to the development or improvement of products in support of the Nonferrous strategic plan, particularly in Aluminum hot rolling products. In addition, this chemist will support the sales force and the customer with higher level technical issues.

Job Accountabilities:

1. Develop and improve Nonferrous chemical products used in a variety of manufacturing and mechanical systems in order to enhance processes, safety and quality in order to meet customer needs and provide solutions to application problems.
2. Carry out clearly specified tests and determinations, in order to answer questions and address problems of customers and develop products. Develops and performs customer requested product analysis and testing.
3. Clearly and orderly record all observations and data. Report results in a clear and concise manner to enhance technical exchange. Provide legal and archival documentation for patent applications.
4. Provide technical service and knowledge to customers and sales associates based upon the chemist’s current level of expertise. Visits customers when required. 10-15% travel is anticipated.
5. Provide assistance to manufacturing in order to improve the quality and efficiency of the manufacturing process.
6. Comply with safety regulations and make recommendations towards the improvement of safety and environmental concerns.
7. Follow all ISO quality and environmental standards as provided in the various procedural manuals. Ensure that all laboratory equipment is calibrated and functioning properly.

Education/Experience:

1. This position requires at least a Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with at least 3 years of experience. A physics or mathematics minor is an advantage. Experience in lubrication is an advantage. Experience in aluminum processing is also an advantage.
2. Must have the ability to work on different projects at the same time, and to think analytically. In addition, must have good prioritization and communication skills (oral and writing).
3. Must be a team player who is result/customer oriented. Must take initiative. Should have the ability to write and prepare reports and presentations.
