Jackson County Florida 4-H seeks a Chemist I to perform routine chemical analyses using ICP-OES or dry combustion analyzers, quantifying elements in samples from county programs. Bachelor’s degree in chemistry is required; no experience is needed though preferred coursework in analytical techniques.
The role includes sample preparation, data entry in LIMS, QA/QC checks, and maintaining a clean, compliant laboratory environment.

Sample Analysis:
Perform routine chemical analyses using inductively couple plasma optical emission spectrometer or dry combustion analyzers to quantify analytes such as carbon, boron, calcium, copper, nitrogen, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, or zinc. Prepare reagents and calibration standards and follow established analytical methods.
Sample Receipt And Preparation
Review sample submissions for completeness; log, track, and prepare samples using established procedures including filtration, digestion, extraction, and homogenization while maintaining proper documentation.
Data Compilation Entry And Reporting
Compile analytical results, perform QA/QC checks, and enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Generate accurate and timely reports. Follow laboratory SOPs, QA/QC protocols, and safety procedures, including proper use of PPE and safe handling of chemicals.
Laboratory Maintenance And Inventory Management
Perform routine instrument maintenance, maintain laboratory cleanliness, and manage chemical, supply, and waste inventories.
Other duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.
$22.11-$29.09 /hour; commensurate with education and experience

Academic coursework and/or practical experience in analytical chemistry techniques, including inductively coupled plasma and combustion instrumentation, colorimetric analyses, titrations, and operation of automated analytical instrumentation. Preferred qualifications also include experience in a service laboratory environment, familiarity with QA/QC procedures, and proficiency with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
