Job summary

Industrial Inspection & Analysis in St. Louis, MO is seeking a Chemist to join our ISO/IEC 17025 accredited, Nadcap-certified materials testing laboratory. The role focuses on chemical compositional analyses using GC-MS, DSC, ICP-OES, XRF, SEM/EDS, and related techniques.

You will prepare samples, develop methods, maintain equipment, collaborate in a team, and communicate results to clients, with opportunities for growth within a growing national platform.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry is required.
  • Ability to perform chemical analyses with accuracy and precision.
  • Experience with standard laboratory instrumentation and safety practices.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Excellent communication of results and conclusions.
  • Proven ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical compositional analyses of materials using instrumentation (GC-MS, DSC, TGA, ICP-OES, SEM/EDS, XRF).
  • Prepare reagents and samples with complex matrices and analyze per published methods.
  • Work with minimal supervision in a team to deliver test results within hold time and deadlines.
  • Conduct acid digestion of metals, ores, and slags to determine composition and match to industry standards.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment; develop methods; communicate results to customers.

Primary Job Responsibilities

The primary job function is to perform chemical compositional analyses of numerous materials from various industries utilizing instrumentation including but not limited to GC-MS, DSC, TGA, ICP-OES, SEM/EDS, and XRF. The Chemist will also:

  • Prepare reagents, prep samples consisting of complex matrixes (products), liquids, and solid materials and analyze according to published methods.
  • Work effectively, under minimum direction, in a team environment delivering test results in sample hold time and on time.
  • Perform acid digestion of various metals, ores, and slags materials to identify the chemical composition and best match to industry standard
  • Create beneficial customer relationship through accurate and timely communication
  • Maintenance of equipment, routine, and non-routine.

Required Qualifications
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry
  • Excellent mathematical skills
  • Detail oriented
  • A self-directed mindset with the ability to work under minimal supervision is critical to this position
  • Able to effectively communicate questions and differences between common problems and unique situations
  • Ability to organize work and to engage in a variety of tasks simultaneously and consistently to meet deadlines is essential to this position
  • Familiar with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Work well in group solving situations
Working Conditions
  • Work will be performed primarily in lab and occasionally onsite at client facility
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time while performing the job responsibilities. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
