Job summary

EnerSys is seeking a candidate for a laboratory role in Hays, Kansas. As an assistant to the Staff Chemist, you will perform chemical and physical tests, maintain records, and analyze data for quality assurance in manufacturing processes. A high school diploma with basic chemistry knowledge is required, along with 1 year of related experience. This role involves standing for long periods and the handling of hazardous materials with proper safety measures in place.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Conduct chemical and physical tests of laboratory samples.
  • Recommend changes to improve laboratory efficiency.
  • Prepare analytical reports and analyze test data.
  • Participate in problem-solving for quality issues.
  • Operate optical microscopes for measurements.
  • Analyze wastewater batches for compliance.

Job Purpose

Assist Staff Chemist with laboratory chemical and physical tests and methodologies required for monitoring the quality of manufacturing processes and products. Also to maintain, enter, record, and file data generated by laboratory activities and analytical work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests of solids and liquids and analyze test data to ensure the quality of processes and products.
  • Recommend changes in laboratory procedures and equipment in order to increase the efficiency of the laboratory.
  • Prepare reports of analytical work.
  • Participate in problem‑solving activities to determine root causes of quality non‑conformances.
  • Operate the optical microscope to measure lead alloy calcium grain diameter.
  • Analyze batches of wastewater to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School degree with basic high school level chemistry knowledge
  • 1 year of appropriately related experience in the industry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate of Science degree, with 1 to 2 years in appropriately related experience in the industry.
General Job Requirements
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to frequently bend; twist; reach; stoop; kneel or crouch.
  • Must be able to differentiate colors.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilos) on a daily continuous basis. Anything heavier will be done with the assistance of a mechanical device or with the assistance of another employee.
  • This position is exposed to harmful materials such as lead/fiberglass products. Periodic blood tests are required to measure the level of lead. Precautions are taken by the company/employee to reduce the risk of exposure and help ensure everyone's safety.
  • Employees are responsible for wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment in the proper manner at all times.
