Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Chemical Engineering Intern for our Dearborn, MI location. The role involves analyzing data, testing materials, and helping design fabrication methods to meet performance and cost targets.

As an intern, you will collaborate with engineering and operations leaders, gain real-world project experience, and have potential consideration for future full-time opportunities. Enrolled students in a related BS program are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering or other related technical degrees.
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027.

Responsibilities

• Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes and develop solutions.
• Conduct tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality.
• Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.
• Design and direct testing and/or control of processing procedures.
• Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.
• Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives.
• Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration.
• Plan and implement laboratory operations for developing material and fabrication procedures meeting cost, product spec, and performance standards.
• Review new product plans and make recommendations for ease of manufacturability while meeting design objectives (strength, weight, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, cost).
• Potentially supervise a crew of hourly employees.
• Various other duties as assigned to support the business

Education

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering or related technical degree
