Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs invites current students to join its internship/co-op program in Burns Harbor, Indiana. You will work with engineers and operators to analyze data, run lab tests, and help shape material processing and product design while gaining exposure to real-world manufacturing challenges.

Enrollment in a BS in Chemical Engineering or related field is required, with at least sophomore standing by summer 2027.

Summary Of Responsibilities

• Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
• Conduct tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality
• Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials
• Design and direct the testing and/or control of processing procedures
• Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials
• Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
• Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration
• Plan and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards
• Review new product plans and make recommendations for ease of manufacturability while meeting the product design objectives, such as strength, weight, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost
• Potentially supervise a crew of hourly employees
• Various other duties as assigned to support the business

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering or other related technical degrees
• Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
