Job summary

Belmont Village Senior Living in Chicago invites motivated leaders to join its 6-month Chef Manager In-Training program. This immersive rotation trains you to oversee high-volume dining, develop culinary talents, and uphold Belmont Village's standards in hospitality and care across independent living, assisted living, and memory care communities.

Successful completion positions you for a Chef Manager role, with mentorship from an experienced preceptor and structured leadership assessments

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory experience.
  • 2 years of food service experience preferred, in catering or banquet settings.
  • Interest in working with older population and ability to relocate after training.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in a paid 6-month CMIT program to develop leadership and culinary skills.
  • Shadow a Chef Manager and complete rotations across the food service program.
  • Demonstrate progress through mentorship, assessments, and hands-on experience.

Launch your leadership career with our comprehensive 6‑month Chef Manager In-Training (CMIT) program. This immersive experience provides the skills and knowledge you need to excel as a Senior Living Chef Manager/Executive Chef. Learn directly from an experienced Belmont Village Chef Manager Preceptor at one of our vibrant assisted living and memory care communities, gradually increasing your responsibilities as you grow. Our structured program combines on-the-job shadowing, a comprehensive skills checklist, self‑paced online modules, leadership assessments, and hands‑on experience. You’ll be guided by your preceptor and the program administrator, developing both technical expertise and essential leadership skills. Successful completion prepares you to apply for Chef Manager positions at Belmont Village. What You Can Expect
  • Comprehensive Rotational Training: This program provides hands‑on experience in all aspects of our Food Service Program, with Mentorship by an experienced Chef Manager. You will learn the leadership skills necessary to manage a high‑volume dining service, develop your culinary talent through recipe‑based meal preparation, ensure consistent high standards in hospitality-focused food service, effective leadership skills to manage the Food Service team members, and understand and maintain all regulatory requirements, all while upholding Belmont Village’s mission and values.
  • Structured Mentorship and Feedback: Your progress will be supported through regular communication with the Program Administrator and Executive Director Preceptor. This includes monthly meetings, ongoing feedback, self‑evaluations, and progress reports, ensuring you receive the guidance and support you need to succeed.
  • Career Advancement: Upon successful completion of the 6‑month training program and with final approval, you will be promoted to a Chef Manager position, based on the company’s needs and your demonstrated abilities. This program is designed to develop future leaders within Belmont Village.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a High school degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of supervisory experience required.
  • Ideal candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of food service experience, preferably in al‑la‑corte or banquet service.
  • Interest in working with older population
  • Experience with food service Point of Sale (POS) Systems
  • You’ll receive personalized support from a dedicated mentor/preceptor throughout this paid training program. While this structure provides invaluable guidance, we also emphasize the importance of self‑directed learning. Participants are expected to actively drive their own learning, seek out opportunities to apply new skills, and fully leverage the resources and guidance provided during this unique training period.
  • Proficient in workplace technology, including Microsoft Office Suite, basic computer troubleshooting, internet navigation, and video conferencing, and the ability to rapidly learn other new technological systems
  • Ability to work flexible schedules in a 24 hour operation including early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in written and verbal English
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is essential for all Belmont Village employees to ensure the successful operation of the community
