Job Summary

To prepare and serve food in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, and facility policies. Supervises food production and presentation.

Qualifications
  • One (1) year dietary experience in a hospital, skilled nursing facility, or related medical facility preferred (but not necessary).
  • Knowledge of dietary procedures.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Ability to cope with mental and emotional stress.
  • Senses of sight and hearing, or prosthetics enabling these senses.
  • Ability to work independently, with flexibility, integrity, and effectively with residents and staff.
  • Good general health and emotional stability.
  • Ability to relate to and work with ill, disabled, or emotionally upset individuals.
  • Capacity to lift, push, pull, and move equipment or supplies over 50 pounds.
  • Ability to taste and smell food for quality assessment.
  • Exposure to infectious waste, diseases, including HIV, AIDS, and Hepatitis B.
Essential Functions
  • Compliance with departmental policies and regulations.
  • Review and suggest menu modifications.
  • Prepare meals according to planned menus, including therapeutic diets.
  • Serve palatable and attractively presented meals.
  • Maintain portion control and use standardized recipes.
  • Ensure accuracy of resident meal trays.
  • Proper food handling and hygiene practices.
  • Daily and scheduled cleaning tasks.
  • Proper storage of food and supplies.
  • Assist with receiving and storing food and supplies.
  • Record menu substitutions and meet meal timing schedules.
  • Report accidents, hazards, and equipment needs.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Supervise the Dietary Department in the absence of the supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
