Job summary

Golden 1 Credit Union in California is seeking a Checking Operations Specialist to manage checking operations, overdraft procedures, and member inquiries. This non-exempt, full-time role reports to the Supervisor - Checking Operations and supports daily operational workflows with a strong emphasis on accuracy and compliance.

You will handle escalations, assist with training, and collaborate across departments to maintain service levels and efficient processes.

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
  • 2+ years experience with cash management or financial industry required.
  • 2+ years experience with customer service required.
  • Previous experience in item processing or related financial roles preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and assess checking accounts with overdrafts, executing closure procedures for accounts that remain overdrawn beyond acceptable timeframes in adherence to credit union policies.
  • Promptly and accurately respond to internal and external member requests for account information, adjustments, or research, collaborating with relevant departments to gather necessary details and ensure timely resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve member concerns, disputes, and inquiries related to checking accounts, maintaining professionalism and efficiency in interactions with members, staff, third-party vendors, and other departments.
  • Assist seniors and supervisors in department-level initiatives, including projects, service packs, remediations, and items requiring special handling, ensuring successful completion of critical tasks.
  • Provide comprehensive support across the department, undertaking additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to maintain seamless daily operations and efficient workflow.
  • Exercise sound judgment in identifying potential system integrity or member-related issues, escalating promptly to management and ensuring timely communication for swift resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and credit union policies, staying informed about industry updates and participating in training programs to maintain expertise in compliance requirements.
  • Prepare and generate production reports related to checking operations, as well as oversee the processing of foreign checks.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting department to research and reconcile discrepancies in assigned general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Assist supervisors and leadership in updating and refining departmental procedures, contributing to improved accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Deliver exemplary service to members, branches, and department staff, providing courteous and efficient support and managing tier 2 escalations as needed.
  • Conduct training sessions to enhance team understanding of checking operations procedures, compliance standards, and best practices, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

You excel at balancing accuracy, compliance, and member service while resolving complex issues, identifying potential risks, and supporting daily operational workflows.
