Job summary

Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for a Forklift Operator(Checker/Loader) in our Carpet Cushion Docks Department on 1st Shift (5am - 1pm) at our Elkhart, Indiana foam manufacturing plant. The role involves loading on trailers with a forklift, performing final quality checks, and handling products per customer requirements.

Pay rate is $23.93 - $24.85 per hour. The successful candidate will communicate daily with the Docks Supervisor and team, and must be able to lift up to 80 pounds,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1 year manufacturing or warehouse experience preferred.
• Forklift experience preferred and forklift certification available in house.

Responsibilities

• Manually load carpet cushion rolls and foam weighing up to 80 pounds.
• Drive a squeeze forklift to load carpet cushion rolls on docks.
• Scan rolls with a hand scanner and check paperwork.
• Print labels from a computer and run manifests/BOLs.
• Load and check multiple docks simultaneously.
• Communicate with co-workers using verbal/hand signals in a busy forklift area.
• Inspect trailers for damage and assist with inventory as needed.

This position is responsible to perform final quality checks on finished product and load on trailers via forklift and handle the product by hand on the trailers per customer requirements. The pay rate for this position is $23.93 - $24.85 per hour.

Carpenter Co. employees are committed to working hard to ensure production goals are met while maintaining operations excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain daily communication with Docks Supervisor, Department Manager, Docks Lead and other employees in the department to make sure that all products being shipped will meet the requirements and specifications of the customer.

Additional Responsibilities Of This Position:

• Manually load carpet cushion rolls and packages of foam weighing up to 80 pounds
• Drive a squeeze forklift to load carpet cushion rolls safely and efficiently on the docks
• Scan carpet cushion rolls with a hand scanner and check paperwork
• Print labels from a computer
• Run manifests and bills of lading from a computer
• Load and Check multiple docks simultaneously
• Communicate verbally and with hand signals to your co-workers that you work in close proximity to you on the docks in a high forklift traffic area
• Lock out trailers/chock wheels before unloading and unlock once loading is completeAssist with Inventory
• Inspect trailers for damage
• Other duties as assigned by your lead, supervisor or manager

Skills/ Requirements:

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree required
• One year of manufacturing or warehouse experience preferred
• Forklift experience preferred and must be able to become in house forklift certified
• Ability to use computerized equipment in day to day operations
• Basic Reading, Writing, and Math skills required
• Ability to work safe in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to walk up and down stairs
