Job summary

University Health Partners of Hawai'i seeks a School Nurse to combine clinical nursing with promoting health, well-being and academic success for school-age children. The RN will supervise Charter School Health Technicians and provide professional development with the HK Program, under the Charter School APRN, while supporting committees and nursing practice in schools.

The role requires state RN licensure, an associate degree in nursing and BLS, with 2 years of pediatric/public health/primary

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in nursing required.
  • Unrestricted RN license in Hawaii.
  • BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
  • 2 years of experience in pediatric nursing, primary care, public health, or acute care.
  • Knowledge of state medical information release procedures and laws.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA rules, regulations, and compliance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations for bloodborne pathogens.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health guidance to students, staff and families.
  • Supervise Charter School Health Technicians (HK Program) with support of Charter School APRN.
  • Deliver professional development and supervision to Charter School Health Technicians.
  • Participate in committees and stakeholder groups supporting school nursing practice.
  • Be physically present at each supervising school weekly and have one administrative day per week for duties.
  • Attend meetings during non-student days as needed.

Job description

School nursing practice requires the combination of professional clinical nursing practice with a specialized element that promotes health, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child. The schoolnurseisresponsible for workingclosely with school administrators, teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, and providing health guidancein addition to carrying out a wide range of school health activities. TheCharter School RNis primarily responsible for providing professional developmentandsupervision toCharter School Health Technicians (from the Hawaii Keiki (HK) Program) with the support of the Charter School APRN. TheCharter School RNwill also participate in committees and stakeholder groups supporting nursing practice in the school setting.

Meeting of the employee’s professional responsibility will be in line with the duties described below and in coordination with the Employee’s supervisor. While the Employee is not required to report to schools on days when campuses are closed, it is expected that the Employee will meet their professional responsibilities to the schools and program which may include attendance at scheduled meetings during non-student days. The Employee is expected to be physically present at each supervising school weekly and will have one administrative day each week to perform administrative and supervisory duties where they will be available to attend meetings and be available to staff via phone and email.

Hiring multiple candidates to cover school sites in Hilo, Mountain View, Pahoa and Waimea. This Hybrid position works 1 day from home and 4 days at school sites. The RN will be at each assigned school a minimum of one day per week.

Locations:Specifically assigned schools to be determined based on organization need in conjunction with locality of applicants.

*School locations are subject to change depending on evolving school requirements each school year.

Full-Time Mon-Fri 7:30am - 4:00pm, 10 Month Employee

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education, Training & Experience:

  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Possession of a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Hawai'i.
  • BLS for healthcare provider certification
  • 2 years of experience in pediatric nursing, primary care, public health, or acute care.
  • Knowledge of state medical information release procedures and laws.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and FERPA rules, regulations, and compliance.
