Job summary

Waymo LLC in Mountain View, CA, seeks a Charging Automation Lead to architect a zero-touch charging network for a global autonomous fleet. You will lead robotic charging arm integration, rapid-deploy energy systems, and BESS to scale high-density charging and remove bottlenecks.

You will act as the primary technical lead for data integration across vehicle controls, charging hardware, CMS products, and cloud data apps; drive automation in testing and CI/CD; and collaborate with product managers

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, CS, CE, Business or related field.
• 5+ years of Charger Management Systems development, API development, data automation/scripting, with strong Python and Autobot experience.
• Experience with EV charging infrastructure deployment and OCPP/OCPI and other data communications.
• Strong API design/management between cloud platforms and data repositories.
• Strong understanding of CI/CD tools (GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps) and Git.
• Ability to lead cross-functional teams with hardware-in-the-loop and in-vehicle testing.
• Excellent communication of technical issues and project status to leadership and partners.

As the Charging Automation Lead , you will architect the transition from manual infrastructure to a fully automated, "zero-touch" charging network supporting a global autonomous vehicle fleet. Sitting within the e-Mobility team, you will lead the strategic technical integration of robotic charging arms, rapid-deploy energy systems, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to eliminate operational bottlenecks and dramatically scale high-density charging infrastructure

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Director of Global Workplace & eMobility.

You will:

• Act as the primary technical lead ensuring seamless data integration between vehicle mechatronic embedded controls, charging hardware, CMS products and cloud-based data aggregation mobile applications
• Support the integration of robotic automation into existing charging infrastructure, specifically the communications between the various systems involved
• Lead the smart buildings design and implementation of automated test scripts and standardized workflows for EV charging features, from initial development through utility energization and final customer activation
• Define and enforce rigorous quality standards and testing strategies, integrating automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines to ensure continuous delivery of high-quality charging infrastructure
• Identify process inefficiencies and lead implementation of automation virtualization opportunities to reduce manual testing and streamline commissioning activities
• Collaborate with product managers, developers, and feature owners while managing external commissioning vendors to ensure all site technical requirements are met

You have:

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or a related technical field
• 5+ years of relevant experience with Charger Management Systems development, API development, data automation/scripting, specifically with high proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks like Autobot or similar
• Extensive technical experience with EV charging infrastructure deployment and the commissioning lifecycle, specifically with regards to OCPP/OCPI and other means of offboard data communications
• Strong experience speccing, building and managing API's between cloud based platforms and data repositories
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools such as GitHub, Jenkins, or Azure DevOps, along with version control systems like Git
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects that involve both hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) bench work and in-vehicle testing
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical issues, project status, and strategic recommendations to leadership and external partners

We prefer:

• A Master's degree in Engineering or electrical certification(s)
• 8+ years of test automation experience with a focus on web/mobile applications and vehicle-to-grid integration
• Hands-on experience with automotive diagnostic tools such as INCA, MDA, CANalyzer, or Vehicle Spy
• Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture (e.g., VIP, SDV) and serial data buses including LIN, CAN, GMLAN, and Ethernet
• High voltage or electrified vehicle safety training and hands-on experience with on-vehicle serial protocols
• Certification in Quality Assurance and/or Test Automation (e.g., Six Sigma, ISTQB) and experience with JIRA/Problem Resolution Tracking Systems (PRTS)

Travel requirements:

• This role requires travel approximately 25% of the time. Specifically, the employee will be expected to travel quarterly as part of their job responsibilities.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
