Position Summary

The Charge Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse responsible for unit operational activities. Using the nursing process and clinical knowledge, this role coordinates nursing and interprofessional team members to promote clinical excellence and customer satisfaction, while optimizing resources. The Charge Nurse adjusts schedules and patient assignments based on acuity, patient needs, and resources. They supervise staff, provide clinical support, and assume management responsibilities in the absence of the nurse manager or clinical care leader.

Employment Qualifications

• Required Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4 years)
• Specialty/Major: Nursing – BSN must be obtained within 2 years of hire
• Licensure/Certification: Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school and licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia
• Experience: 18-24 months of clinical experience with knowledge of nursing theories, policies, procedures, and equipment
• Additional Skills: Knowledge of management/leadership theories, teaching skills, and group dynamics. Must be a Clinical Nurse II or submit a portfolio upon hire.
