Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with standards of care and hospital policies.
  • Mentor staff and act as a resource in the clinical area.

Job description/Responsibilities: Per-DiemNOC ShiftAPPROXIMATE PAY RANGE:$80.68 - $99.23The ER Charge Nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the quality of nursing activities and staff functions during their shift. Provides direct communication with the Manager of the Emergency Department effectively. Effectively utilizes nursing personnel. Time and equipment on the unit and assists the department Manager in the daily operation of the unit. Performs direct patient care, as needed, within the scope of practice. Continually assess care provided in the department by ED staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Nursing Process1. Ability to assess and reassess pain on admission after giving pain medication and on discharge or transfer of patient and proper documentation on the patient record.
  • Coordinates and oversees the implementation of patient care for the specific shift.
  • Evaluates and prioritizes the effectiveness of care given by the health care team members based on standards of care on the specific nursing unit.
  • Assists the staff when needed, to perform selected skills correctly and in a timely manner. Acts as a resource person and role model in the clinical area.
  • Demonstrates competence in the care of pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients (when/if assigned to these patients) relative to determining each patient's age-related and other physical, psychosocial and cultural needs and carry out patient care activities.
  • Monitors the compliance of all team members to standards of care and hospital policies and procedures. Participates in the peer review process.
  • Coordinates shift assignments and staffing requirements for next shift.
  • Provides information relevant to staff performance for annual appraisals and orientation.
  • Assists in developing standards for the department.
  • Serves as a resource for staff to identify and solve problems effectively using all available resources to resolve issues. Keep Clinical Nurse Manager informed of issues and actions.
Required Qualification
  • Current and valid CA Registered Nurse license required.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Current Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required. (within 6 months of hire)
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required.
  • Assaultive Behavior Training required.
  • Sexual Harassment/ Bullying Prevention Certification required. (1 month from hire)
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) preferred.
  • Minimum two-years Emergency Department experience preferred.
