Job summary

The Hospitals of Providence - East Campus in El Paso, TX is seeking a Charge Nurse to lead nursing staff, ensure safe patient throughput, and supervise support personnel on a shift basis. This role includes direct clinical patient care and coordination with medical providers to maintain high-quality care.

The Charge Nurse will assess, plan, and implement care for assigned patients each shift and report to clinical leadership to ensure competency and appropriate resource use.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
• 1 year of RN experience required.
• AHA BLS certification required; ACLS/PALS/NRP as applicable by policy.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and support to nursing staff and ensure a safe environment.
• Model and supervise direct clinical care and patient throughput on the unit.
• Delegate assignments based on training and patient acuity; supervise support staff.
• Coordinate with medical providers to ensure high quality patient care.
• Report to clinical leadership (CNO) for staffing, care quality, and resource management.

The charge nurse is responsible for the smooth and efficient patient flow within the unit, delegates assignments and provides supervision for the support staff in accordance with their level of training and the patient's acuity. The charge nurse works, in cooperation with medical providers to ensure the quality of patient care.
This role also provides direct clinical patient care. The role will assume responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing direct clinical care to assigned patients on a per shift basis, and unit level. The role is responsible for supervision of staff to which appropriate care is delegated. The role is accountable to support CNO to ensure high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical staff, and appropriate resource management related to patient care.

Education:
Required: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred: Bachelor's or master's degree.
Experience:
Required: 1 year of RN experience.
Certifications:
Required: Currently licensed, certified, or registered to practice profession as required by law, regulation in state of practice or policy; AHA BLS, and if applicable by corporate policy for unit of hire, AHA ACLS and/or PALS and/or NRP.
Physical Demands:
