Verland is currently seeking a Charge Nurse to join our team in Sewickley, PA, at our Main Campus. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to the individuals that call Verland their home.
Shift Availability
- Full Time – 36 hours
- Week 1: 6 am – 6:30 pm: Wednesday/Thursday/Friday
- Week 2: 6 am – 6:30 pm: Thursday/Friday/Saturday
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive physical health assessments.
- Monitor and oversee others to ensure safe professional nursing practices are maintained.
- Respond to medical emergencies and provide care and treatment of residents in emergency situations.
- Control the emergency scene in the absence of the primary care provider and decide whether the individual should be transported to the emergency room by EMS.
- Maintain emergency equipment and supplies in a designated area and ensure that equipment and supplies are checked daily by nursing staff.
- Assist with planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating activities related to the nursing function in the ICF.
- Educate and train staff members and serve as a preceptor to new nursing staff members. Assist the new nurse to complete the orientation checklist, observe, give feedback, plan daily learning experiences, discuss progress during orientation, and serve as a continued resource.
- Assist the Director of Nursing (DON) and Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) with supervision of nursing staff, provide oversight of subordinate nursing staff, delegate work assignments, and review nursing activities in the ICF.
- Actively participate in Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) meetings to manage and coordinate health care to achieve optimal health. Attend annual staffing and ITR reviews.
- Attend meetings as assigned and make rounds of assigned areas on a regular basis.
- Review physicians’ orders and Medication Administration Records to ensure medications/treatments are administered as ordered. Notify the DON/ADON of any exceptions, omissions, or errors. Administer and document the prescribed medications and treatments.
- Perform laboratory procedures as ordered.
- Document care administered to individuals on a daily, monthly, and annual basis. Ensure all assessments and documentation are completed by the appropriate staff for each shift.
- Call in replacement staff (staff not already on the schedule or agency staff) in the event of a call off. If unable to fill the vacancy, may call the ADON/DON for assistance.
- Perform related duties as requested.

Requirements
- Must have the ability to provide patient care; prepare and maintain records; organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and delivery of health services; interpret policies and procedures; interpret health care regulations; plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others.
- Must have the ability to appropriately interact with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, family members, and staff members.
- Must have the ability to work independently and productively with all levels of staff.
- Must have the ability to comprehend individual records, physicians’ orders, and communicate information effectively.
- Must be able to establish positive working relationships with other members of the IDT.
- Must be able to document individual care in a comprehensive manner, according to professional and legal standards.
Minimum Experience and Training
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school and hold current Pennsylvania licensure.
- At least two years of experience as a practicing RN in a health agency, hospital, or related health care facility.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Charge Nurse or management experience preferred.
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License and complete all required clearances.
