Job summary

UCI Health is seeking an experienced Charge Description Master Manager to oversee the chargemaster for inpatient and outpatient services, ensuring accurate capture of charges across departments. You will work closely with clinical and IT teams to maintain regulatory compliance and effective charge application.

The role requires CPC certification, at least 3 years of CDM leadership, and strong data analytics and communication skills to coordinate with physicians, coders, and revenue cycle staff

Your Role on the Team
Position Summary

The incumbent is responsible for managing the Charge Description Master for all inpatient and outpatient technical charges, including Room & Board Care, Pharmacy, Durable Medical Equipment, SOS 22 ambulatory practices and ancillary services. Additional duties include charge capture development, rate analysis, and alignment of hospital charges to physician charges. The role serves as the primary liaison for institutional charge application and regulatory charge guidelines, working independently and collaboratively with Clinical Care Partners, Revenue Cycle Associates and IT Business Analysts to make decisions regarding the Chargemaster.

Required Qualifications

What It Takes to be Successful

  • Effective collaboration with all levels of health system personnel, including directors and physicians.
  • Ad hoc technical report writing, complex analyses and data conversion for different formats.
  • Conversion of master files into departmental reports.
  • Understanding of third‑party regulatory requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, managed care and commercial payers.
  • Customer service skills appropriate to the job.
  • Knowledge of coding, billing and revenue management policies.
  • Knowledge of split‑claim billing and payer reimbursement relating to charges.
  • Knowledge of coding software tools to maintain current charging and billing guidelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Advanced computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate work pace and establish effective relationships across the Health System.
  • Analytical skills: define problems, research, formulate conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Minimum 3 years experience with CDM management, in an academic or large healthcare system, and as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
  • Minimum 3 years chargemaster management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skill to interpret governmental and commercial payer regulations and implement consistent recommendations.
  • Knowledge of university and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms.
  • Epic PB Resolute certification.
