Job summary

Orlando Health seeks a hospital chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional care to patients, families and staff on assigned units. The role is located in a hospital setting, with responsibilities spanning rounds, crisis intervention and bereavement support.

The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in theology (MDiv preferred) with ACPE- recognized CPE units, and ordination/licensure as a chaplain. Active faith and DoD-listed endorsements are required.

Qualifications

• Master level degree required; Master of Divinity preferred; equivalent degrees may be considered.
• Accreditation by ATS preferred or listed in DAPIP.
• 4 units of CPE for full-time, 2 for part-time, 1 for pool; units recognized by ACPE/APC/NACC/NAJC/CPSP/CPE-I/ICPT.
• Active spiritual faith demonstrated.
• Ordination/licensure/endorsement as chaplain by a recognized religious body per DoD list.

Responsibilities

• Provides spiritual and emotional care for patients, loved ones and team members on assigned unit(s).
• Documents interventions on the patient chart including referrals and spiritual assessments.
• Participates in rounds, case reviews, ethics consultations and advanced directive consults.
• Provides crisis intervention and bereavement support for those experiencing suffering or loss.
• Performs sacramental and chapel services or arranges for provision by community clergy.
• Maintains attendance and compliance with Orlando Health policies and applicable laws.
• Provides education, inspiration and support to promote spirituality and health for patients and staff.
• Per request, offers devotions and invocations for Orlando Health events.

Position Summary

This position is located in Saint Petersburg, FL - Bayfront Hospital

Responsibilities

• Requires direct access to Protected Health Information (PHI). The PHI accessed is used for patient treatment, and healthcare operations purposes through direct contact with patients, family members, patients’ medical records/charts, computer applications, and verbal reports from healthcare providers, and interaction with various hospital interdisciplinary team members.
• Documents interventions on the patient chart, including, but not limited to such information as referral source, spiritual assessments, interventions, and follow-up/referral plan.
• Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary clinical team, participating in patient rounds, case reviews, ethics consultations, and advanced directive consults.
• Provides crisis intervention and bereavement support for persons experiencing suffering, tragedy, or loss.
• Performs requested sacramental services, applicable chapel services, and/or arranges for the provision of these services by community clergy.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Provides education programs, inspiration and support for patients, their loved ones, team members, and the community to promote the relationship between spirituality and health.
• Per request, provides devotions and/or invocations for Orlando Health and/or Orlando Health sponsored functions.

Qualifications

• Master level theological degree is required, with a Master of Divinity being the preferred degree. Master level equivalent theological degrees may be considered.
• Accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools preferred or a listing in The Database of Postsecondary Institutions and Programs (ope.ed.gov/dapip/)
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for full time, two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for part-time, one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education for pool. All units must be recognized by ACPE, APC, NACC, NAJC, CPSP, CPE-I, or ICPT.
• Active spiritual faith demonstrated.
• Ordination, licensure, or commissioning and endorsement as a chaplain by a religious body listed in the US Defense Department list of Recognized Religions.
