Job summary

Orlando Health seeks a chaplain to provide spiritual and emotional care for patients, families, and team members on assigned units. The role is located at Saint Petersburg, FL – Bayfront Hospital, focusing on crisis intervention, bereavement support, and sacramental services.

The chaplain will work with the interdisciplinary team, document interventions, and educate staff and community about spirituality and health, while adhering to hospital policies and standards.

Qualifications

• Master level theological degree required or equivalent.
• ACPE/ APC/ NACC/ NAJC/ CPSP/ CPE-I/ ICPT-recognized CPE units required.
• Ordination, licensure, or commissioning as chaplain endorsed by a recognized religious body.

Responsibilities

• Documents interventions in the patient chart, including referrals, spiritual assessments, interventions, and follow-up plans.
• Participates in interdisciplinary clinical rounds, ethics consultations, and advance directive reviews.
• Provides crisis intervention and bereavement support for patients, families, and staff.
• Performs sacramental services or arranges for services by community clergy.
• Maintains regular attendance and compliance with Orlando Health policies and standards.
• Delivers spiritual care education, inspiration, and support to patients, families, team members, and the community.

Job description

Position Summary
Provides spiritual and emotional care for patients, their loved ones and team members on assigned unit(s).
This position is located in Saint Petersburg, FL - Bayfront Hospital

Responsibilities

• Requires direct access to Protected Health Information (PHI). The PHI accessed is used for patient treatment, and healthcare operations purposes through direct contact with patients, family members, patients’ medical records/charts, computer applications, and verbal reports from healthcare providers, and interaction with various hospital interdisciplinary team members.
• Documents interventions on the patient chart, including, but not limited to such information as referral source, spiritual assessments, interventions, and follow-up/referral plan.
• Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary clinical team, participating in patient rounds, case reviews, ethics consultations, and advanced directive consults.
• Provides crisis intervention and bereavement support for persons experiencing suffering, tragedy, or loss.
• Performs requested sacramental services, applicable chapel services, and/or arranges for the provision of these services by community clergy.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
• Provides education programs, inspiration and support for patients, their loved ones, team members, and the community to promote the relationship between spirituality and health.
• Per request, provides devotions and/or invocations for Orlando Health and/or Orlando Health sponsored functions.

Qualifications

• Master level theological degree is required, with a Master of Divinity being the preferred degree. Master level equivalent theological degrees may be considered.
• Accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools preferred or a listing in The Database of Postsecondary Institutions and Programs (ope.ed.gov/dapip/)
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for full time, two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for part-time, one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education for pool. All units must be recognized by ACPE, APC, NACC, NAJC, CPSP, CPE-I, or ICPT.
• Active spiritual faith demonstrated.
• Ordination, licensure, or commissioning and endorsement as a chaplain by a religious body listed in the US Defense Department list of Recognized Religions.
