The role includes conducting spiritual assessments, crisis intervention, bereavement support, facilitating sacraments, documenting care in the EMR, and participating in on-call and weekend/holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• Master level theological degree required; M.Div. preferred.
• Accreditation by ATS preferred or listed in ope.ed.gov/dapip.
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for full time, two (2) units for part-time, one (1) unit for pool, recognized by ACPE/APC/NACC/NAJC/CPSP/CPE-I/ICPT.

Responsibilities

• Provides spiritual assessments and pastoral care as part of the interdisciplinary clinical team.
• Documents interventions in the patient chart, including referral source, assessments, interventions, and follow-up plans.
• Offers crisis intervention and bereavement support for those experiencing suffering or loss.
• Performs sacramental services and arranges for services by community clergy as requested.
• Participates in rounds, ethics consultations, and advanced directive consults.

The PRN Chaplain provides compassionate, patient-centered spiritual care and emotional support to patients, families, and team members of all faiths, beliefs, and backgrounds. This role collaborates with physicians, nurses, social workers, and the multidisciplinary care team to address the spiritual and emotional needs of those experiencing illness, crisis, grief, or end-of-life care while upholding Orlando Health's commitment to excellence and compassionate service.

The Chaplain is responsible for conducting spiritual assessments, providing pastoral care, responding to emergency and crisis situations, supporting families through difficult healthcare decisions, facilitating spiritual resources when requested, and contributing to a culture of holistic healing in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Key Highlights

• Provide spiritual, emotional, and pastoral care to patients, families, and caregivers throughout the continuum of care.
• Respond to crisis situations, trauma activations, end-of-life care, and bereavement needs with compassion and professionalism.
• Conduct spiritual assessments and develop appropriate plans of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
• Support patients and families in navigating illness, grief, loss, ethical concerns, and major life transitions.
• Coordinate with community faith leaders and facilitate religious rituals, sacraments, or spiritual practices as requested.
• Accurately document spiritual care interventions in the electronic medical record.
• Participate in on-call and weekend/holiday coverage as required for PRN scheduling.

Responsibilities

• Requires direct access to Protected Health Information (PHI). The PHI accessed is used for patient treatment, and healthcare operations purposes through direct contact with patients, family members, patients' medical records/charts, computer applications, and verbal reports from healthcare providers, and interaction with various hospital interdisciplinary team members.
• Documents interventions on the patient chart, including, but not limited to such information as referral source, spiritual assessments, interventions, and follow-up/referral plan.
• Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary clinical team, participating in patient rounds, case reviews, ethics consultations, and advanced directive consults.
• Provides crisis intervention and bereavement support for persons experiencing suffering, tragedy, or loss.
• Performs requested sacramental services, applicable chapel services, and/or arranges for the provision of these services by community clergy.
• Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education/Training

• Master level theological degree is required, with a Master of Divinity being the preferred degree. Master level equivalent theological degrees may be considered.
• Accreditation by the Association of Theological Schools preferred or a listing in The Database of Postsecondary Institutions and Programs (ope.ed.gov/dapip/)
• Four (4) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for full time, two (2) units of Clinical Pastoral Education for part-time, one (1) unit of Clinical Pastoral Education for pool. All units must be recognized by ACPE, APC, NACC, NAJC, CPSP, CPE-I, or ICPT

Licensure/Certification

Ordination, licensure, or commissioning and endorsement as a chaplain by a religious body listed in the US Defense Department list of Recognized Religions.

Experience

Active spiritual faith demonstrated.
