Job summary

Tri-Cities Chaplaincy is seeking a Chaplain Lead to provide spiritual care to patients and families, while guiding a multidisciplinary team in end-of-life support. This leadership role emphasizes compassionate care and community collaboration from a full-time, non-exempt position in Richland, WA.

The successful candidate will hold a Master’s degree in divinity or a related field, with healthcare spiritual care experience, strong communication, and a commitment to board certification or CISM

Qualifications

  • This role requires a Master’s degree in a related field and formal spiritual care training.
  • Experience delivering spiritual care in healthcare or hospice settings is essential.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and active listening abilities are required.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays is expected.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel to client homes or facilities.
  • Must obtain CISM certification within six months if not already held.

Position Overview

The Chaplain Lead provides spiritual care and guidance to patients, their families, and the team. The Chaplain Lead plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals facing end-of-life care, ensuring they receive emotional and spiritual support during this sensitive time. This position requires strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and a deep understanding of hospice care principles.

Minimum Qualifications
  • 1. Master’s degree in divinity, Theology, Psychology, or related discipline from an accredited school of higher education.
  • 2. Experience in providing spiritual care in a healthcare or hospice setting.
  • 3. Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • 4. Excellent communication and active listening abilities.
  • 5. Demonstrates professionalism in the workplace and when representing the agency in the community.
  • 6. Comfortable with public speaking and collaborating with community partners.
  • 7. Compassionate and empathetic approach to end-of-life care.
  • 8. Knowledge of ethical and cultural considerations in spiritual care.
  • 9. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • 10. Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • 11. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, as driving is an essential function of this role.
  • 12. Must meet insurance eligibility requirements and support in clients' homes, facilities, and community locations.
  • 13. Must obtain Certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) through an ICISF-accredited organization within six months, if applicant does not already have this certification.
  • 14. This position is designated as Safety Sensitive. Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen which includes cannabis testing in Washington State.
  • 15. Ability to report to the assigned work location(s) as scheduled and maintain consistent, reliable attendance.
  • 16. Willingness to pursue Board Certification process within 1 year of hiring
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1. Leadership experience.
  • 2. Certification in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) through an International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) -accredited organization.
  • 3. Board-certified chaplain.
  • 4. In the process of board certification.
  • 5. Completion of a recognized chaplaincy training program or clinical pastoral education (CPE).
  • 6. Bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages.

Compensation
Hiring Range

$27.86 - $37.87/hour

Premiums
  • $2.50/hour Weeknight
  • $2.25/hour Weekend day
  • $4.75/hour Weekend Night
  • $4.00/hour On Call Standby

Note regarding the listed pay range: At Tri-Cities Chaplaincy, we carefully establish pay ranges for our positions by taking various factors into account, including education, certifications, knowledge, skills, experience, internal equity, and market conditions. These ranges are tailored to match the diverse programs and services we offer. Our goal is to ensure fair compensation for candidates based on these factors while maintaining internal peer equity.

Hiring Range

The starting pay range offered to new hires, depending on experience and qualifications.

Benefits
  • Vacation: Accrued each pay period based on your hours worked.
  • Sick Leave: Accrued in accordance with Washington State Sick Leave Law.
  • Wellness Days: After completion of the 90-day introductory period, employees may convert up to two (2) accrued sick days annually into wellness days.
  • Paid Holidays: Ten (10) paid agency observed holidays per year, available upon hire.
  • Bereavement Leave: Three (3) days for the loss of an immediate family member. Two (2) days for the loss of a household pet or service animal.
  • Community Volunteer Day (Yay Day): One (1) paid day annually for volunteer service, granted each January.
  • Health Insurance Benefits (Effective the first of the month following date of hire): Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance.
  • Employer Paid-Benefits: Basic Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance (1x annual salary), Long Term Disability, Short Term Disability.
  • Voluntary Benefits: Supplemental Life Insurance, AD&D (Additional coverage), and Pet Insurance.
  • Voluntary Financial Protection Benefits: Hospital Indemnity, Critical Illness, and Accident Insurance.
  • Air Ambulance: Discounted rate for Life Flight.
  • Retirement 401(K) Plan: Employees may contribute upon hire; employer matching of up to 5% begins the following January or June depending on Hire date after 1 year of employment.
  • Mileage Reimbursement: $0.72 per mile, for eligible positions. (Subject to change based on IRS rates)
  • Premium Pay: Bilingual (Spanish) pay premium (subject to proficiency verification through ALTA language services)
  • Certifications: Certification-based premium pay, as applicable and approved.
  • Tuition Assistance: Up to $5,250 annually after one (1) year of employment.
  • Professional Development: Access to continuing education through platforms such as Relias Learning and CAPC.
AGENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • 2. Community Outreach: Participate in education and outreach activities to promote agency programs, including hospice care, advanced planning, and bereavement services.
  • 3. Policy Compliance: Maintain knowledge of and comply with agency policies, procedures, and practices.
  • 4. Confidentiality: Protect patient and agency information per HIPAA guidelines. Only access information on a need-to-know basis.
  • 5. Transportation: Maintain reliable personal transportation. Maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance per state requirements.
  • 6. Health Requirements: Satisfy state and agency health requirements by providing proof of immunization, declinations, or approved accommodations as applicable.
  • 7. Screenings: Pass criminal background and drug screenings.
  • 8. Physical Demands: Meet the physical and environmental requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.(see attached physical requirements)
  • 9. Training and Orientation: Complete agency and departmental orientation and required training programs.
  • 10. Continuing Education: Complete ongoing education, policy reviews, and training be designated deadlines.
  • 11. Licensure and Certification: Maintain current licensure(s) and certifications(s) required for the role.
  • 12. Language Proficiency: Read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • 13. Work Availability: Be available to work as assigned or scheduled.
